(DAHLONEGA) – After pulling out a tightly contested doubles point, the University of North Georgia men’s tennis team eased its way through the singles lineup en route to a 7-0 non-conference win over Newberry on Tuesday at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.

After the two teams traded doubles victories with Eliseo Alcalde and Christopher Cahour winning 6-2 at the third line, the doubles point came down to a tiebreaker in the second line. North Georgia’s Marcos Castellanos and Giulio Sassi rallied to give the Nighthawks the edge heading into singles with a 7-6 (2) victory.

In singles, the Nighthawks posted six straight set victories kicked off by No. 22 Joaquin Benoit’s 6-2, 6-0 win in the top singles line.

The win moves UNG to 2-0 on the season. The Nighthawks return to action on Saturday, Feb. 17 when they travel to Rome, Ga. to face both No. 19 West Alabama (11:00 a.m.) and Shorter (3:00 p.m.).
