DAHLONEGA – Zack Waldow and Kevin Candido won their singles and doubles matches, but the No. 34 University of North Georgia men’s tennis team fell to No. 25 Georgia College, 5-4, Wednesday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex, falling to 9-6 on the year in the process.

Waldow and Candido teamed up at No. 3 doubles to get the Nighthawks off on the right foot with an 8-1 win over Gabriel Caron and Noah Wallace. The Bobcats, however, took the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead.

After a retirement at No. 1 singles put GC up, 3-1, Robin Moller took a straight set win at No. 3 to put the Bobcats within a point of winning. Mark Laishley won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 to keep the Nighthawks in the match, but Jannik Kumbier won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 to clinch the match for Georgia College.

Waldow and Candido each won their matches in straight sets with Waldow winning a second-set tiebreak to earn his win.

The Nighthawks will battle Flagler Saturday morning in Dahlonega. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
