DAHLONEGA – With a strong performance on the mound from Brock Carter and two three-run homers from Andres Perez, the University of North Georgia baseball team soared to victory over Anderson, 7-2, Tuesday night at Bob Stein Stadium.

UNG wasted no time putting runs on the board early in the first frame. Crews Taylor was issued a walk, putting a runner on base for the Nighthawks. Chase Sudduth delivered a shot to right for a single, putting two runners on board for Perez, who blazed a three-run homer to put UNG on the board, 3-0.

The Trojans responded in the second frame with a leadoff homer from Matthew Overton to cut the lead, 3-1, the only run that would be surrendered by Carter, and prompting the Nighthawks to begin their offensive rampage in the bottom of the second.

Nick Clarno got the second frame rally going with a lead off double off the centerfield wall. William Mapes came behind him with a ground single to right putting runners on the corners for Sudduth, who knocked a RBI single up the middle to score Clarno from third, 4-1. With runners on the corners again, Perez blasted his second three-run homer of the game, his 14th of the season, giving UNG the 7-1 advantage.

The five frames to follow remained scoreless due to solid defense from both teams. Anderson broke the silence in the eighth with back-to-back singles from Tyler Miller and Tyler Berry. Dillon Carpenter’s RBI double scored the second and final run for the Trojans in the contest, 7-2. A solo shot from Mapes and a RBI single from Perez in the bottom of the eighth got the 9-2 win for the Nighthawks.
