DAHLONEGA – In a matchup of top 30 teams, the No. 29 University of North Georgia women’s tennis team fell to No. 3 Columbus State, 8-1, Sunday afternoon.

The Nighthawks fell down 2-0 early on in doubles play, but Felicia Baratta and Holly Bennett won at No. 1 doubles, 9-7, to bring UNG to within a point.

The Cougars took all six matches in singles play, but it wasn’t without a fight from North Georgia. At No. 2 singles, Baratta forced tiebreakers in both sets, eventually falling 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). At No. 4 singles, Vaishali Jorge forced a tiebreak in the first set and a 7-5 second set against No. 42 Candice Paya.

North Georgia will take on Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday with first serve scheduled for noon.
