(LANETT, Ala.)– The No. 24 Truett McConnell University men’s golf team traveled to the Point University Fall Invitational for their first tournament of the season. The Bears finished day one in second (290) but improved through round two by 12 strokes (278) to secure the runner-up spot, of five teams.
 
Host Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor No. 14 Point University won the tourney (541) while No. 24 Bears defeated AAC foe Reinhardt University (third place, 583) and Faulkner University (fourth place, 593).
 
Most notable, all five Bears shot even or under par through the final 18 holes of the tournament. Senior Dawson Day led TMU individually tied for sixth place overall after carding a 71, 68. Fellow senior Luke Peavy placed 12th (73, 69) while senior, and NAIA All-American, Matt Smith (73, 71) and freshman Michael Osborne tied in 13th (73, 71). In 16th was sophomore Jhett Lewis after improving by six strokes to finish one under on day two (76, 70).

The No. 24 Bears will next compete at the SCAD Invitational Saturday, Sept. 14 – Sunday, Sept. 15.
