(WEST POINT, Ga.) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women’s basketball team traveled to compete in a non-conference match-up against Point University, where the Lady Bears battled hard but ultimately fell to a final score of 52-32. TMU falls to an overall record of 1-5, while PU rises to an overall record of 3-3.

 

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In the first period, the Skyhawks were first on the board. TMU quickly responded with layups by Alysee Dobbs and Sydnie Smith followed by a jump shot by Dobbs. TMU continued to battle to steal the lead as a layup by Alexis Brewster evened the score, but PU worked quick to take a marginal lead as the first period ended 8-19. The second period saw good free throws by Dobbs and Kacie Wiliams as the Lady Bears worked under pressure, but a persistent home team kept a hefty lead for the remainder of the half (11-27).

 

The Skyhawks opened the third period eager to increase their lead, but a jump shot by Dobbs and good free throws by Brewster kept TMU in the game. In the final period, the Lady Bears gave their all as they took shots in efforts of decreasing the gap with layups by Asia GantAva Queen and Brinkley Kate Reed. Final three-pointers by Queen and Mahalah Stewart gave the Lady Bears a fighting chance, but ultimately wasn’t enough, falling short to a final score 32-52.

 

LEADERS

Dobbs led the way with 10 points and nine rebounds, going 4-6 at the free throw line. Queen followed with five points and three rebounds, while Brewster had four points and five rebounds, while going 2-2 for free throws. Gant and Stewart recorded three points apiece.

The Lady Bears will travel to Pikeville, Ky. on Tuesday, Nov. 21 to take on the University of Pikeville in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
