(CLEVELAND, Ga.) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University men’s basketball team hosted Union College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up where the Bears proved to be a tough competitor, besting the reigning AAC regular season champions 90-86. TMU rises to an overall record of 3-4, 2-3 AAC, while UC falls to a record of 4-2, 4-1 AAC.

TMU has just handed Union their first AAC regular season loss since February 3, 2022, breaking the Bulldogs 36-game AAC regular season win streak.

In the first half, the Bulldogs were first to act with KJ Riley quickly responding with a good three-pointer, assisted by Cory Seitz. UC continued to work offensively as the Bears fell behind by 18, but TMU did not lose heart as a layup by EJ Smith and Seitz, followed by a three-pointer by Jadon Yeh reduced the scoring margin to seven as both teams entered the half 31-38.

The second half began with a three-pointer by Akil Covington, followed by a layup by Seitz. Both teams battled back and forth until back-to-back three-pointers by Yeh tied the game. TMU continued to hold their own when layups by Yeh and CJ Brown proved to be the difference maker. UC attempted to recover from the Bears stellar second half performance but were ultimately unsuccessful as a final good free throw by Yeh sealed TMU’s win, 90-86.

Yeh led the way for the Bears with 20 points, going 3-6 at the three-point arc, 7-10 in field goals, and 2-3 at the free throw line. Brown followed closely behind with 16 points, while Covington recorded 14 points and seven assists. Smith was seen with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Seitz had 10 points and five rebounds. Riley and Raul Arias-Ortega recorded nine points apiece.
