(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – The Truett McConnell University men’s basketball team hit the road on Thursday to face Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Columbia International University. The Bears struggled at the start but bounced back in the second half to keep the game close, ultimately not enough as they fell short to a score of 88-74.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The first half saw both teams evenly matched as the score remained close, until the Rams pulled away in the 14th minute with a strong run. Shots in the paint from CJ Brown and Jadon Yeh worked to reduce the home teams lead, followed by a Brown layup, and shot from the three-point arc to put the Bears within three points of bridging the gap. CIU gained speed to pull away with the lead once again, leaving TMU down 32-51 at the half.  The Bears were forced to work under pressure as the Rams continued to increase their momentum, but three-pointers from KJ Riley and Brown kept TMU in the game. Final efforts from a Yeh shot in the paint and good free throw from Cory Seitz could not provide the bounce back needed as the Bears fell to a final score of 74-88.

LEADERS
Riley led the way with 14 points and five rebounds, along with going 3-4 at the free-throw line. Brown recorded 14 points of his own, followed by Yeh who recorded 12 points and Akil Covington who recorded 11 points.
