(Cleveland)-  This is National Fire Prevention Week and White County Fire Services along with the US Fire Administration  reminds you Don’t Wait, Check the Date, that is the theme for this years campaign and it is aimed at encouraging Americans to practice fire safety by checking the date of your smoke detector.  Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years.

Place properly installed and maintained smoke alarms both inside and outside of  sleeping areas and on every level of your home.  Test smoke alarms monthly and change alkaline batteries at least once every year,  or as instructed and practicing fire escape plans,

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy says,  White County Fire Services has a smoke detector program that offers detectors at no charge for low income families and the elderly.
