DAHLONEGA – Drew Ridings tied the single-round scoring record to jump into the top 20 as the University of North Georgia men’s golf team wrapped up play in the 6th Annual UNG Fall Invitational by shooting 5-over-par over 54 holes, the fourth-lowest score in program history.

Evan Thompson was the lowest score on the counting team for the Nighthawks, finishing in a tie for eighth place overall at 6-under. His 54-hole score is fourth all-time in the men’s golf record book.

Playing as an individual, Ridings climbed 16 spots up the leaderboard in the final standings with his final round 66, tying five other men’s golfers in the lowest 18-hole category, most recently shot by Matt Elliott at the NCAA Regional Preview in 2017.

Carson-Newman won the tournament as a team by six shots over Clayton State. The Eagles shot 27-under for the tournament, including the best single round score in tournament history in the second round Monday. Southern Wesleyan finished in third, while Limestone and West Georgia tied for fourth.

C-N’s Tom Forster and Clayton State’s Joseph Kim tied atop the leaderboard for the individual medalist honors. Due to lightning in the Dahlonega area, the two elected to share the medalist honors. Their scores of 15-under tied the tournament record for 54-hole scores.

The Nighthawks will be back in action next week at the Golfweek Division II Fall Invitational.
