(CLEVELAND) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University baseball team hosted their first Appalachian Athletic Conference series doubleheader inside the TMU Baseball Complex against Tennessee Wesleyan University. The Bears suffered a tough loss in both games, 2-15 and 4-15. TMU falls to a 5-7 record, 0-3 AAC, while the Bulldogs rise to 11-1, 3-0 AAC.

GAME 1 | 2-15

There was a slow start for both teams until the Bears were first to hit the board. In the second inning, Griffin Kanelos reached first and advanced to second off an error by the Bulldogs. A sacrifice bunt from Cade Kiniry put Kanelos in scoring position, where Jake Edwards was capable of scoring Kiniry (1-0). The Bulldogs responded in the third inning with two runs of their own (1-2). With eager bats, a solo homerun from Matt Redmond evened up the score (2-2). The Bulldogs were not satisfied and went on to score 13 runs over the remainder of the game.

LEADERS

Redmond, Mikal Mascarello and Kanelos all went 1-4 at the plate. Redmond tallied one RBI while Kanelos had one run. Kodi Bishop went 1-3 at the plate, followed by Will Ingram, who went 1-2.

GAME 2 | 4-15

The Bulldogs were quick to jump on the Bears in the first inning with a solo homerun (0-1). They continued to tally runs through the seventh inning, making the score 0-15. The Bears responded In the final inning. Brody Jarrard sparked the action with a single to center field. Gage Smith followed with a single, along with an Ethan Roberts single to score both Smith and Jarrard (2-15). Jordan Kenty was hit by a pitch to load the bases, where a Mascarello single scored the final two runs for the Bears (4-15).

LEADERS

Redmond led the way going 1-3 at the plate with one run. Following that, Mascarello went 1-4 at the plate and tallied two RBI’s. Jarrard and Smith both went 1-1 and had a run apiece. Roberts concluded, going 1-3 at the plate and contributing two RBi’s.

The Bears will remain inside the TMU Baseball Complex on Tuesday, Feb. 22, where they will host Georgia Gwinnett College for a non-conference match-up. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
