WINGATE, N.C | In rainy and wet conditions, the University of North Georgia women’s cross country team posted a fourth place finish on Saturday at the Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate at the WU Cross Country facility.  The 6K Bulldog Stampede was a preview for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional to be held on Nov. 7.

Host Wingate won the 20-team event with 74 points, finishing 20 points ahead of runner up Anderson.  Queens (99 points) took third.

North Georgia’s 134 points was nearly 100 clear of fifth place Georgia Regents (230). 

UNG’s Brittany Truitt earned a top-10 finish with a time of 23:30, finishing just thirty seconds behind winner Haylee Love (22:50) of Anderson.

Freshman Allyssa Sheffield continued her steady improvement as she was the second Nighthawk across the line in 24:12 (24th). 

The three remaining UNG scorers finished within 19 seconds of each other as Makayla Ellis (24:17, 29th), Caitlin Connell(24:26, 34th) and Jenna Tilton (24:36, 37th) rounded out the scoring for head coach Tom Williams‘ squad.

North Georgia will take nearly two weeks off before returning to the Charlotte, N.C. area to take part in the Royals XC Challenge hosted by Queens.
