9-26-15

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – After coming up empty on 19 previous attempts, Jacy Ramey got the 3rd-ranked University of North Georgia women’s soccer team on the board in the 87th minute on the team’s 20th shot of the match to give UNG the 1-0 victory in a defensive battle against instate rival-Georgia College.

The Bobcats played back the majority of the game in an attempt to keep North Georgia’s offense at bay with the strategy looking like it would at least send the game to overtime until a late Nighthawk attack proved too much in the 87th with Ramey cleaning up cross from the outside in the crowded six-yard box.

NOTES
– After scoring three goals in each of their first four games, the Nighthawks have been held to a single goal in their last two contests with opponents employing a strong defensive strategy. UNG ultimately prevailed in both contests scoring the game-winning goal late, proving the team’s versatility.

– North Georgia put 11 shots on goal in the game. UNG has had at least 10 shots on goal in five of its six games this season.

– The shutout marks the fifth for the Nighthawks this season. It is the first time in the NCAA-era that North Georgia has shutout its opponents five times in a six game span.

– UNG has only allowed one goal through its first six games, the lowest mark in the NCAA-era. The previous low was two goals through the first six contests in 2011, when North Georgia started out 10-0.

– Nighthawk keeper Mallory Sayre recorded her 22nd career save, extending her school record.

STAT OF THE GAME
20-4 – UNG outshot the Bobcats 20-4 in the game. The Nighthawks have had a double-digit advantage in shots in every game this season.
