(ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.) – The top-ranked University of North Georgia men’s golf team battled the wind and a nationally-ranked field to pull away late and win the team title at the Spring Kickoff hosted by Lincoln Memorial at St. Johns Country Club.

The field featured five teams in the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division II poll.

Hughes Threlkeld and Will Chambless led the way for the Nighthawks as they finished in a tie for second with matching 54-hole totals of 214 (-2) landing them both on the All-Tournament list. Threlkeld’s one-under 71 was the Nighthawks’ lone under par score of the day.

The Nighthawks held off No. 16 Lander by two strokes after carding a final round 301 (+11) for a 54-hole total of 875. No. 4 LMU finished third at 878 while No. 5 GSW (881) was fourth and Wingate (889) was fifth.

Columbus State’s Bernard Meyer claimed medalist honors with a 212 which was two shots clear of the Nighthawk duo.

The win kick starts North Georgia’s spring season and adds to the three team titles from the fall semester.

North Georgia will return to the links on Feb. 26-27 when the team travels to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to take part in the Spring Bulldog Clash hosted by Barton at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
