CALERA, Ala. | University of North Georgia junior Matt Elliott set a new 36-hole school record on Tuesday afternoon at Timberline Golf Club as he helped lead the men’s golf team to a fifth place finish at the Montevallo Full Moon Invitational. Elloitt’s -7 (66-69-135) mark was three strokes better than the previous record set by Howard Duffin at the same tournament five years ago.

Elliott finished tied with Lee’s Shea Sylvester at the end of the day, but Sylvester took home the individual medalist honor defeating the Wilkesboro, North Carolina native in the second hole of the individual playoff.

As a team, UNG finished the event 10 strokes over par, 290-291-581, tied for the best team performance after two rounds of play in school history. Lee took home the team title with an impressive 276-279-555.

Grant Lasseter saw the most improvement from the first round to the second improving by five strokes to finish today’s 18 with a 72.

North Georgia will travel to St. Augustine, Florida next week for the Jay Jennison Memorial, hosted by Flagler CollegeSept. 19 and 20 at Slammer & Squire.
