(CLEMSON, S.C. )- The Piedmont women’s lacrosse team dropped its first USA South contest of the year to Methodist on a stormy Saturday afternoon. The contest saw an extended weather delay right out of half time.

Junior Ava Trankina opened the scoring for the Lions within the first two minutes of the contest but the Monarchs quickly stole the momentum. Netting the next five goals, Methodist threatened to run away with the game early. Junior Merryn Bumpass scored to close the first period of action as Piedmont trailed 5-2.

Senior Maggi Spratlin posted the next goal for the Lions in the second period as the teams traded blows. A pair of Monarch goals was answered by freshman Savannah Limehouse as Piedmont fought to keep the contest within reach. However, the Methodist offense once again went on a big run, scoring the final four goals of the half and gave their team an 11-4 lead at the break.

Both teams posted a singular goal out of the half before the weather delay began, freezing the game at 12-5. After play resumed, it was all Methodist as Piedmont failed to score for the remainder of the game while the Monarch offense added nine more goals for a 21-5 win.

Up next, Piedmont returns home for Senior Day action against Meredith on Saturday, April 27.
