(Cleveland)- As is often the case here in Northeast Georgia the weather can change quickly. Since Thursday, when weather officials indicated they didn’t think we would have winter weather this weekend, things are coming together to support a better chance for wintry precipitation across parts of northeast, east-central, and southeast (middle) Georgia later today (Friday) into tonight. Forecasters say we are still not expecting widespread/significant winter weather impacts.

The National Weather Service says a period of mixed light precipitation (rain/freezing rain, sleet, snow…possibly changing to all snow, is likely somewhere along and east of a line from Helen to Lawrenceville to Covington to Milledgeville late this afternoon through this evening.

Due to expected temperatures, any snow or ice accumulations should be confined to grassy and metal-type surfaces depending on the duration and intensity of the precipitation.

Up to 1 inch of snow (or sleet) and/or a few hundredths of an inch (<0.05″) of freezing rain is possible.
