Sports – The Warriors were back in action last night at home to take on the Gilmer Bobcats in High School Baseball.

White County placed the first points on the board with a double steal in the bottom of the first. Innings 2 and 3 remained scoreless, and both teams would score one in the fourth.  The Bobcats would tie it up in the fifth as the Warriors would leave the bases loaded.

Tied at 2 going into the sixth, an RBI double and a ground ball would allow Gilmer to take the lead by two, and one more point off of a wild pitch in the top of the 7th would put the Bobcats ahead by 3. It seemed the game was over for White County, but the Warriors had other plans.

A missed outfield catch by Gilmer put the first Warrior on base, followed by a walk would bring the tying run to the plate, and then on base by another walk from the Bobcat’s pitcher to load the bases. White County would send in pinch-hitter Luke Dockery to try and bring the White County runners home, instead, one more walk would bring in a walk-in score for the Warriors, and a change in pitchers for the Bobcats.

The new Gilmer pitcher would walk the next two Warriors, tying the game at five. The next Warrior at bat would strike out, but confusion on the infield would allow the winning run to make his way home, and bring the game to a unique end. Drew Harris calls the final play:

Final score was 6 to 5 White County.

Game 3 of the series with Gilmer will be on Friday, with the play-action called here on WRWH.
