(CLEVELAND) – The Truett McConnell University women’s soccer team continued their undefeated Appalachian Athletic Conference streak with a win over Bryan College on Saturday afternoon at the TMU Soccer Complex (3-1). The Lady Bears improved to 8-1, 5-0 AAC on the year.

TMU’s first goal started all the way in the back as junior Rachel Barnett played a through ball over the top to freshman Madison Wright. Wright crossed the ball to the feet of Lydia Williams, the AAC’s 2018 freshman of the year, across the six to allow her to already finish within the first two minutes of the game (1-0). The Lions responded with a goal of their own in the 13th minute, which sent the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.

The Lady Bears outshot the Lions 6-3 in the first half, however, TMU came out even stronger in the second half. TMU outshot Bryan 10-1 and earned four corner kicks while the Lions earned none.

The first goal of the second half by the Lady Bears took place in the 65th minute. For the third time this season, junior Tori Wilson’s corner kick allowed freshman Lauren Bergevine to score on a header (2-1). But for the first time this season, the Lady Bears found the back of the net on a penalty kick. Senior Jasmin Lanuza scored on a penalty kick with 1:42 to go on the scoreboard to further extend TMU’s lead (3-1).

Jessica Lanier led the way with four shots, two on goal, while Lanuza followed with three shots. Wilson and Jennifer McCall added two shots apiece. Hope Foster was credited one save on the day.

Up next, the Lady Bears are set to host Reinhardt University on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 1:00 p.m., before hitting the road for Bluefield College on Sunday, Oct. 6.
