(CLEVELAND, Ga.) – The Truett McConnell University women’s basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Union College on Saturday, where the Lady Bears battled until the very end, ultimately falling to a final score of 66-61. TMU now sits at an overall record of 9-15, 8-10 AAC, while the Bulldogs improve to an overall record of 7-18, 7-12 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The lady Bears were first to hit the board back-to-back shots in the paint by Alexis Brewster and a good Brewster free throw (5-0). The Bulldogs responded with shots of their own, stealing the lead 9-10 and securing the advantage into the second quarter. Union struck first in the quarter two, while free throws from Sydnie Smith and Alysee Dobbs cut at the visiting teams lead (16-17). Both teams proved evenly matched until a jump shot from Kacie Williams gave TMU the lead, followed by shots from Kayleigh Kelley and Brewster (31-26).

The third quarter saw Union bridge the gap and take control (44-51), but the Lady Bears did not give in as they gained momentum at the start of the fourth quarter with a Brinkley Kate Reed jump shot and three-pointer (49-52). Final efforts from Dobbs and Smith gave the Lady Bears hope as the lead was in range (55-58), but the Bulldogs stayed sharp, forcing TMU to a tough loss with a score of 61-66.

LEADERS

Brewster led the way with 17 points and six rebounds, while Smith and Dobbs individually had eight points. Reed recorded seven points on the day, followed by K. Williams who had five rebounds.
