(CLEVELAND, Ga.) – The Truett McConnell University softball team hosted Columbia International University on Thursday in an Appalachian Athletic Conference battle, where the Lady Bears showed no mercy as they secured the sweep with a win in game one in five innings (8-0) and a 7-2 win in game two. TMU improve to an overall record of 13-8, 9-1 AAC.

GAME ONE | 5 Innings

The first innings saw TMU hot, starting with a lead off walk for Rebecca Graham, who continued to score after a RBI single from a Hailey Cronic. Grace Rolds followed with an RBI single to right field to make the score 2-0, while Emme Souter capitalized on the inning with a RBI double to right field (4-0). The Rams worked to add to their side of the scoreboard, but it was no hope as Kyleigh Sanders stayed sharp on the mound. Jenna O’Brien recorded a two run RBI single in the fourth, while Cassie Boatright sent TMU’s final two runs home to make the score 8-0.

LEADERS

O’Brien led the way going 2 for 2 at the plate with a single run and two RBIs. Graham went 1 for 2 with two runs and one walk, followed by Gipson and Cronic who went 1 for 3 and Boatright who went 1 for 2 with two RBIs, one run and one walk. Sanders recorded the shutout win from the mound, along with tallying five strikeouts and only allowed three hits.

GAME TWO | Boatright Grand Slam

Boatright sparked game two with a RBI double to right, while a Rachel Morgan RBI single made the score 2-0. The second inning saw CIU work to get even with a single run, but the effort proved useless as Boatright took matters into her own hands a shot the ball over the center field fence in grand slam fashion (6-1). The Rams scored one final run in the third inning, while Boatright shined with a final RBI to make the score 7-2.

LEADERS

Boatright led the way going 3 for 4 at the plate, along with tallying six RBIs and two runs. Cronic went 2 for 3, while Kyndall Gipson earned the win after pitching seven complete innings and tallied six strikeouts.
