(CLEVELAND) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team fell in game one of the series against Appalachian Athletic Conference reigning champs, Tennessee Wesleyan University, with a final score of 12-2. 

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Bulldogs did not hold back as they scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first inning, while TMU was forced to work from behind. The third, fourth and fifth inning saw four more runs from TWU, but the Bears responded in the bottom of the fifth as Cade Kiniry reached first after earning a walk and continued to score on a wild pitch (1-6). The Bulldogs continued to stay resilient in the box, with TMU adding a second run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI from Kodi Bishop to score Matthew Redmond from third (9-2). The Bears continued to fight but the game was ultimately out of reach by TWU with a final score of 12-2. 

LEADERS

Redmond led the way going 1-2 at the plate, along with two walks and a single run. Will Ingram went 1-2 with two walks, while Griffin Kanelos and Ethan Roberts had one hit apiece.   Pitcher Craig Barton recorded four strikeouts, followed by Evan Gravitt who had a single strikeout.

The Bears return inside the TMU Baseball Complex to face Tennessee Wesleyan in the final two games of the AAC series tomorrow, with game one set for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
