LAURINBURG, N.C. | The Truett McConnell softball team swept St. Andrews in the AAC opener for TMU, winning both games by a single run. With the win, the Bears improve to 13-4. Head coach Jenni Shepard and the TMU softball program also earned wins No. 200 and 201 in the sweep.

Game 1: TMU 3, SAU 2
The Bears got on the board first in the top of the first when Kaitlynn Hay, after singling to lead off the game, came across the plate after great base-running awareness to take an early 1-0 lead.

After the Knights took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, TMU tied it up in the top of the fourth. After a leadoff double by Peyton Wilson, Hay brought her home with a single to the left side.

The score remained tied until Milly Martinet broke the draw with a bomb to center field on the second pitch of the inning. The Knights got a runner on in the bottom half of the inning, but Reba Jones caught the runner attempting to steal third to end the threat and secure the 200th program win.

Jones finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, while Hay was 2-for-3. Taylor Nix earned the complete game win, scattering six hits and two runs across the seven innings.

Game 2: TMU 8, SAU 7
The Knights were the first to strike in the second half of the twinbill, scoring a run off a leadoff walk and three TMU errors. The Bears tied it up two innings later when they hit back-to-back doubles by Wilson and Sarah Horne.

TMU took its first lead of the game in the fourth. Olivia Darley led things off with a single followed by a Jaden Morrison double to plate Darley. Macey Dunaway then squeezed in Morrison to make the game a 3-1 score.

The Bears blew the game open in the fifth, plating five runs on seven hits and a Knight error. All seven hits were singles, and the Bears also executed two sacrifice bunts in the inning as well.

The Knights did not go quietly as they scored two runs in the fifth and four in the bottom of the seventh, but TMU held on for the win.

Bethany Hyde earned the win in complete game fashion, fanning eight Knights in the process.

The Bears will next take on Point University in the AAC home opener on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set at 1 p.m.
