Rondal “Gooney” Hester, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Gomer and Ruby Hester. Rondal was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many.
In addition to his parents, Rondal was preceded in death by his brothers, Garner Hester, Robert Hester, and James Hester, as well as his sisters-in-law, Barbara Hester and Lynda Hester, and his brother-in-law, Fred Savage. He was also preceded in death by his great-great-nephew, Jacob Hester.
Rondal is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Tona Hester; his daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and Shawn Jackson; his grandchildren, Brittany and Austin McEntire, and Amber and Spencer O’Connor; and his great-granddaughter, Ilona O’Connor, whom he cherished deeply. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn Savage, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Hoyt Hester, Russell and Mary Jo Hester, Richard and Judy Hester, Jack and Maury Hester, Don and Caroline Hester, Morris Hester, and Horace and Cindy Hester. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Hester, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He retired from the White County Board of Education after more than 32 years of dedicated service. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
It was Rondal’s wish to be cremated. No public services are being held at this time.
