(Washington, D.C.)— Thursday North Georgia Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) released a statement after voting in favor of H.R. 6126, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, which passed that evening by a vote of 226-196.

Clyde says,  “Given Hamas’ barbaric terrorist attack on October 7th and ongoing assault against our greatest Middle Eastern ally, Israel, this legislation is not only timely but imperative,” said Clyde. “We must ensure Israel has the resources needed to successfully defeat evil Iran-backed Hamas terrorists so it can protect its citizens.

In addition to bolstering Israel’s defense capabilities, House Republicans’ supplemental aid package strengthens our own national security by replenishing our domestic defense stockpiles. Thankfully, under Speaker Johnson’s leadership, this legislation is also fully offset by rescissions from bloated IRS funding in President Biden’s severely misguided Inflation ‘Expansion’ Act — providing a commonsense solution to support our ally in its time of need without placing an additional financial burden on American taxpayers.

I proudly voted for this necessary and fiscally responsible supplemental aid bill, and I remain committed to fortifying both the U.S. and Israel’s national security amidst increasing threats from our adversaries across the globe.”

Prior to the vote, Rep. Clyde spoke in favor of H.R. 6126 on the House floor. Watch his full remarks below.

Background

  • $3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing for the procurement of advanced weapons systems and defense articles and services
  • $1.2 billion for the continued development of the Iron Beam system to counter short-range threats
  • $1 billion to support artillery and munitions production
  • Support U.S. Personnel & Citizens
  • $150 million for an enhanced security presence at the U.S. Embassy
  • $50 million for the evacuation of U.S. citizens
