(Cleveland)- Family members will gather privately to remember and honor Dr. Charles Leonard White, Jr., who passed away Monday.

White, who was 74 years old, had a long career serving the people of White County, both as a family doctor as well as serving several county positions including County Commissioner and Medical Examiner.

White was appointed by the governor to the Georgia Composite Medical Board and later served as the Chairman of the Board.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. He went on to graduate from Mercer College with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

In 2006, a group of White County citizens came together to discuss the need for a free clinic to serve the uninsured residents of the area. This had long been the dream of Dr. White. The Clinic was incorporated in early 2007 and a working group was formed to organize the necessary resources to make the clinic a reality. He was named the clinic’s Medical Director.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to places close to Charles’ heart:  Community Helping Hands Clinic or Cleveland Care Center.
