JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. | Cierra Jackson and Jordan Livesay scored 18 points each, but No. 21 Carson-Newman led wire-to-wire for an 86-65 victory over the University of North Georgia women’s basketball team on Thursday evening in CNU’s Holt Fieldhouse.

C-N scored the game’s first 10 points and never looked back as the Eagles improve to 5-1 on the season.

NOTES
– The win was C-N’s fourth over a Peach Belt Conference foe through the first six games of the season.

– Livesay netted 14 of her 18 points in the first half, while Jackson scored all but two of her 18 in the second period.

– Jackson completed her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 14 rebounds, marking the fourth consecutive game the senior guard has collected double figure rebounds.

Kelsey Hutchins pitched in with 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor and six rebounds, marking the fifth consecutive game that the junior forward has scored in double figures.

– The Eagles had 12 different players score in double figures led by 15 from Kailyn Brooks and 11 from Tatum Burstrom. Burstrom also crested the 1,000-point career plateau in the win.

– C-N, ranked No. 21 in the WBCA/USA Today Coaches poll, hit 11-of-29 from 3-point range setting a new season high for long distance shots against the Nighthawks.

– C-N now holds a 4-2 edge in the all-time career series.

– Jackson, Livesay and Hutchins combined to make 15 of the Nighthawks’ 20 field goals and 17-of-20 free throws to account for 77% of the team’s total offensive production.

– The Nighthawks entered the game ranked 11th in the country in turnovers per game with 12, but gave possession away a season-high 17 times against the Eagles.

– For the second consecutive season, the Nighthawks had a season-opening six-game winning streak snapped on the road by a South Atlantic Conference team as Lenoir-Rhyne handed UNG its first loss a year ago.

North Georgia will take 11 days off before returning to action on Monday, Dec. 14 with a non-conference home game against Reinhart. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 in UNG’s Memorial Hall.
