(AMERICUS, Ga.) — In the team’s Peach Belt Conference opener, the University of North Georgia men’s soccer ended in a draw against the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes. A 1-1 final score was the result for both sides as UNG continued an upward momentum after winning three of the last four games.

It was a scoreless tie for much of the evening before Andres Melendez (GSW) earned a goal in the 60th minute, giving the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead. The Nighthawks would answer shortly after, as Michael Walsh, off an assist by Aram Lara, scored the equalizer, making it 1-1.

The Hurricanes benefited from more shots in the game, outshooting UNG by a total of 14 to eight. Despite the shot disadvantage, neither side could separate, leaving North Georgia with a 3-3-1 record.

The Nighthawks return home to the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park for a match against USC Aiken on Wednesday (Sept. 20) at 4:00 p.m. Aiken holds a record of 0-3-1, falling to Flagler in their last time out.
