(LAURINBURG, N.C.) – On Tuesday, the Truett McConnell University men’s basketball team traveled to compete in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up against St. Andrews University, where the Bears were featured recording their fourth straight win, besting SAU with a final score of 85-78. TMU rises to an overall record of 7-5, 5-4 AAC, while SAU falls to a record of 3-9, 1-9 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

In the first half, TMU was first on the board with layups by CJ Brown and KJ Riley. Both teams battled back and forth for the lead, when the Knights managed to pull ahead of the Bears by eight. TMU did not lose heart as a jump shot by Riley and layups from Cory Seitz and Raul Arias-Ortega, worked to decrease the margin. A clutch three-pointer, followed by a layup, both by Jadon Yeh ultimately helped create momentum for the Bears, forcing a chain reaction of three good layups by EJ Smith, Arias-Ortega and Yeh to put the Bears up by six. TMU continued to increase the margin on SAU, with a layup by Seitz followed by a final layup by Akil Covington, sent TMU into the half, up by 10, 38-28.

The second half, saw the Bears once again first the basket with layups by Riley and Brown. The Knights attempted to keep up with TMU but were unsuccessful, proving the Bears to be no contest as a layup by Yeh, followed by a three-pointer off an offensive rebound for Brown, increased the margin by 16 points. A three-pointer from Seitz, assisted by Covington, put the Bears up by 20 as TMU showed no mercy against SAU. A last-minute effort by the Knights attempted to close the gap, but was ultimately unsuccessful, resulting in stellar win from the Bears with a final score of 85-78.

LEADERS

Yeh led the way for the Bears with 17 points, going 7-14 in field goals. Seitz followed closely behind with 15 points and six assisted, while Covington recorded 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and went 6-6 at the free throw line. Arias-Ortega was also featured contributing 12 points and five rebounds, while Smith had 10 points. Brown tallied seven points on the evening with six rebounds, while Riley has six points and 11 rebounds, respectfully.
