(GWINNETT) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to No. 3 Georgia Gwinnett on Tuesday afternoon for a nonconference matchup. The Bears rallied in the seventh inning with three runs but it proved not enough as the No. 3 Grizzlies secured their 11th win (8-4). TMU fell to .500 on the year (6-6).

PLAY-BY-PLAY

Right off the bat the Grizzlies scored an earned run in the first and an unearned in the second (2-0). With two scoreless innings in between, GGC put up three more runs in the fifth to put themselves at a five run advantage (5-0). However, the Bears stepped up to the plate in the seventh. An Evan Bensch double scored Patrick Overstreet and Jackson Meadors (5-2). Freshman Will Ingram followed up with a single up the middle to drive home Bensch to cut the deficit down to two (5-3).

Nonetheless, the Grizzlies responded with three more runs in the seventh (8-3). Junior Calob Rowland homered in the eighth (8-4) but it proved not enough as GGC held the Bears scoreless the rest of the way.

Brooks Rosser pitched 4.1 innings allowing just two hits, two walks and struck out two.

LEADERS

Overstreet went 2-for-4 while Josh Johnston went 2-for-5. John Michael McRae and Tyler Pruitt also connected for a hit for the Bears. TMU outhit GGC 9-8.

The Bears are on the road for their first Appalachian Athletic Conference series of the season at Milligan College on Friday, March 1 – Saturday, March 2.
