(CLEVELAND) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women’s basketball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent, Kentucky Christian University, where they bested the Knights with a score of 76-63. The Lady Bears finished the regular season with a record of 17-13, 13-11 AAC, while the Knights fell to 17-12, 13-10 AAC.

PLAY BY PLAY

At the start, the Knights hit the court with enough speed to hold the lead for the entire first quarter (18-14). The Lady Bears struck back in the second quarter, capable of stealing the lead with a good three-pointer from Natalie Nixon. The Lady Bears kept the advantage for the rest of the second quarter, 31-33.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears briefly lost the lead (34-33) but quickly gained it back with a good three-pointer from Re’Tavia Floyd.  Both teams were back and forth, but once again TMU was capable of securing the lead with many layups from Quan HoltonRe’Tavia Floyd, and Camilla Callihan and two good free throws from Callihan. In the final quarter, layups from Holton and Callihan, and three-pointers from Holton, Alysee Dobbs, Floyd, and Sydney Rumble created a large 13-point gap, putting the game out of reach with a final score of 76-63 over the Knights.

LEADERS

Floyd led the way with 25 points, going 3-6 at the free throw line, with one rebound. Nixon followed with 13 points and tallied six rebounds. Holton recorded 13 points, going 1-2 at the free throw line and contributed nine rebounds. Callihan had 11 points of her own and went 3-4 at the free throw line. Rumble had seven points, along with five rebounds.

The Lady Bears remain inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena to face Bluefield University on Monday, Feb. 21 for an AAC Play-In game. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
