AUGUSTA, Ga. – Four University of North Georgia golfers were named to the Peach Belt Conference’s All-Academic Team as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Tanner MerckMegan SabolKarson Stone and Alexis Whitneywere each among the 30 players across the conference named to the team.

A sophomore from Augusta, Sabol sports a 3.76 GPA, majoring in Kinesiology/Health & Fitness. She also has the lowest stroke average in the conference, shooting just over 74 strokes per round. Stone, a sophomore from Thomasville, Georgia, has earned a 3.60 GPA while majoring in General Studies and minoring in Exercise Science. Whitney, from Charlotte, North Carolina, has the fourth-highest GPA out of all the women on the All-Academic Team at 3.93 while majoring in Special Education.

The lone men’s golfer on the team, Merck, a sophomore from Gainesville, Georgia, has a 3.67 GPA as a computer science major.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.

Both teams are getting set to participate in the Peach Belt Conference Championship at St. Augustine, Florida, this weekend. The first round of the tournament is set for Thursday.
