(Cleveland)- The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office has released information pertaining to the arrest of two people from South Carolina on drug charges.
Mitchell Posey, Special Agent in Charge of the drug enforcement office in a news release said, 46-year old Joey Liston Smith and 58-year old Debbie Lynn Jackson, both of Salem, South Carolina were arrested on Sunday based on warrants from Rabun County. Posey advised that the pair were charged with trafficking of Morphine in an incident that occurred back in May.
According to Posey, an investigation by the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) revealed Smith and Jackson were delivering a large quantity of morphine to Rabun County to sell. Rabun County Deputies and ARDEO Agents conducted a traffic stop of their car. 218 milliliters of liquid morphine was located in a veterinarian container.
This liquid was sent to the GBI Crime Lab who verified that this liquid was an opium.
The news released states that 218 milliliters of morphine is the equivalent to 218 grams of opium. In the State of Georgia, 4 grams of morphine or opium is defined as trafficking of this illegal drug therefore the sentences could be much harsher.
The street value of this liquid morphine is unknown.
