(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Education decided to take a time out during their regular meeting Thursday night to deal with the hiring of a new high school basketball head coach.
Quint Moss was named the interim girls’ basketball head coach for the 2023-2024 season last August following the resignation of then-head coach Jarvis Davenport, who accepted a coaching position at North Hall High School. The Moss appointment was made for the upcoming basketball season and a re-evaluation of the coaching situation would be conducted at the end of the season.
Several people have expressed their views, online and directly to board members, that Moss should be named to that position. However, a selection committee has recommended to the board that they hire Steve Shedd who is currently serving as head basketball coach at Banks County High School.
Following an hour-long executive session, the board chair Missy Jarrard said they were going to do something a little bit different. Jarrard said they were combining all of their personnel recommendations, except she said,” We are pulling one of the recommendations for Steve Shedd for White County High School teacher and head coach basketball position, we are going to discuss that individually.” Jarrard then said, “I’m going to ask for a motion to table this until a called meeting on April 9, at six o’clock to get a little bit more information.”

According to Jarrard, this doesn’t mean that the personnel recommendation is out of the running. Anyone who would like to address the board publicly on April 9th prior to the executive session should make their intentions known 24 hours before that meeting.
The board did approve Scott Givens to be the new White County High School Teacher & Head Boys BB Coach effective school year 2025.
