FLORENCE, S.C. | The University of North Georgia men’s and women’s tennis teams have embarked on the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence (S.C.) Tennis Center for the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will open up quarterfinal play on Friday (Apr. 24). The top eight teams in the league following the regular season advance to tournament play with the winner getting an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The 2015 season marks the first year that both programs have qualified for PBC postseason play in the same year.
The UNG women will be the No.8 seed for the PBC Tournament after winning a three-way tiebreaker with Francis Marion and Clayton State. All three teams finished the year with 6-7 league marks, but the Nighthawks swept both FMU and Clayton State to earn the seed. This will be North Georgia’s first appearance in the PBC Tournament since 2009.
The Nighthawk women finished the regular season with a 12-9 overall mark matching the highest single season win total in school history. The year was highlighted by a school-record 10-match winning streak.
North Georgia will face off against top-seeded and No. 1 Armstrong State at 9:00 a.m.
The 21st-ranked UNG men will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament, their highest seeding as a part of the PBC. Making their second straight tournament appearance, the Nighthawks finished the season with wins in five of their final six matches and a 14-4 overall ledger. The 14 wins also ties a single season school record for victories.
North Georgia will battle fourth-seeded Columbus State, ranked No. 8 nationally, at 1:00 p.m.
