(CLEVELAND, Ga. ) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women’s lacrosse team hosted Warner University for a non-conference match-up, where the Lady Bears put up a fight but ultimately fell to a heartbreaking loss, 14-10. TMU falls to an overall record of 1-1.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first quarter, the Lady Bears were first to score with a goal by Katie Smith, assisted by Kaitlyn Morgenroth. The Royals quickly responded with a goal of their own, keeping the match even. Two more goals for the Lady Bears, one apiece by Shelby Nail and Mackenzie Tyler, gave TMU hope as the Lady Bears kept WU at bay. A shift in momentum for the Royals, quickly changed the pace of the game as three consecutive goals allowed the visiting ahead, putting TMU behind by one as they entered the second quarter, 3-4. In the second quarter, the Lady Bears proved capable of tying the game, with a goal by Nail. The Royals once again found luck, scoring two consecutive goals, creating a gap on the board. Nail and Marlo McBrayer worked together to recover as two more goals by the home team were added to the home team’s score. Two final goals by the Royals were found in the last minutes of first half regulation, putting the Bears down by two as they entered halftime trailing 6-8.

The third quarter saw the Royals put up four more goals. McBrayer was seen scoring a goal, two more times, while Nail put up one, holding the gap to three points as they entered the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, WU went on to score two more goals, eagar to solidify the Royals win. A last chance effort by TMU with a good goal by Maddie Donnelly, attempted to bridge the gap, but was ultimately not enough to change the outcome of the game. Falling to a final score of 14-10.

LEADERS
Nail led the way with four goals, taking 11 shots and recording 10 ground ball pickups. McBrayer followed with three goals, taking six shots, and 10 draw controls. Smith, Donnelly, and Tyler recorded one goal apiece. Goalie Sally Marcum was featured recording 13 saves on the day.

TMU will be back in action at home on Friday, February 16, as they take on Oglethorpe University in a non-conference match-up, inside the TMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Match time set for 5:00 p.m.
