(CLEVELAND) | The Truett McConnell athletic department has completed its annual Boot Camp and coaches are finishing their final preparations for students to come back to Cleveland next week.

The annual boot camp was highlighted by Shane Williamson helping to train the coaches for discipleship to the student athletes Wednesday. Williamson is the Executive Director of Field Ministry for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

“We were honored for Shane to take time out of his busy schedule to come speak to us,” said Director of Athletics Dr. Stacy Hall. “Shane gave us the tools necessary to go out and be great disciples of God and great teachers to our student athletes.”

After going through policies and procedures on Monday, the coaches and athletic support staff took part in CPR and AED training Tuesday after lunch. Once the staff was certified in these areas, the staff took part in The Bear Dash.

Divided into five teams, the coaches and staff drove around the greater White County area looking for clues and building relationships with each other. Stops on the dash included United Community Bank, Dairy Queen, the Cabbage Patch Babyland, the Old Sautee Store, Fred’s Famous Peanuts, Chick-fil-A, Mountain Fresh Creamery and the Soda Fountain Cafe.

During the race, the teams had to take different pictures to prove that they had made it to the different stops. There were also opportunities for bonus points on the race by completing brainteasers or finding TMU marks to take pictures with. The winning team consisted of Mike Croley, Tiek Fields, David McDowell and Katie Stovall.
