(Cleveland)- A line of afternoon thunderstorms roared through northeast Georgia Monday that left numerous trees and tree limbs down in the city of Cleveland and other areas.   The storm hit around 5 pm and at the peak of the storm 56 mile per hour wind was recorded at the White County Emergency Operation Center.

There was no major damage reported even though Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt said two homes were  hit by trees.  In addition Pruitt advised a gas pump at the Chevron convenience store on the Helen Highway was blown over.

“The links on the fuel lines  coming out of the ground from the pump did exactly as they were suppose to , the check valve shut the gas off and the emergency power shut itself down,” said Pruitt.  Cleveland  Fire Department was assisted by White County Fire Fighters along with Cleveland Public Works crews who worked to clean up the down trees.

The damage was much worse in Habersham County, west of Clarkesville.
