Tornado Watch area shaded – NWS

(Cleveland)-Hefty thunderstorms rolled through Northeast Georgia early Thursday morning knocking down some trees and causing numerous power outages. Habersham Electric’s Outage Map shows over 25 hundred meters without power at 6 AM.

The majority of those were in White County where a total of 1680 outages were indicated.

The outages are all over the county with the largest single area affected from Sandy Flats Road through Gene Nix Road to Highway 115 West.

No reported damage from the storms has been reported, but lots of roads have leaves and wash-out debris in them so use extra caution in your travel.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch that affects 70 counties including White County until 1 PM Thursday.

Keep it here at Local News Radio 93.9 FM for the latest weather statements from the National Weather Service.

Scott Justus, Assistant Superintendent of White County Schools advises that  White County High School will be closed today (Thursday) due to no power at the school. Busses will not pick up High School Students because of the closing.

Justus said, all other schools have power and will be in session today (Thursday).  Justus noted buses may be late saying we have some trees down on roads but bus drivers will maneuver to their best ability to get everyone to school safely.
