(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) – In a game that was decided in the bottom of the ninth, the Piedmont University baseball team dropped a walkoff to No. 22 Christopher Newport 3-2 Sunday.

The game was decided after a lead off walk was eventually put into scoring position with two outs and brought in on a wild pitch to end the game.

Piedmont was first on the board in the fourth inning. Thanks to a walk and a steal, Isaak Mullanack drove in Trace Cate.

Christopher Newport answered back with two runs on three hits in the sixth inning off starter Adam Metivier. An error in the top of the seventh proved costly for the Captains as Nathan Mix had an RBI double to tie it up.

The Lions were unable to get a hit in the final two innings and were out hit in the game 12 to five.

Up next, Piedmont will begin conference play at home with a Thursday-Saturday series against Belhaven with first pitch Thursday set for 6 p.m.
