DAHLONEGA | Following a thrilling comeback win, the twelfth-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team dropped game two against Emmanuel (Ga.), 4-1. With the loss, the Nighthawks fall to 34-14 on the year.
The Lions leadoff hitter Elliot Beard started the game off with a solo home run against UNG starter Jacob Beauchamp (6-3), giving Emmanuel a 1-0 lead they would never look back on.
Beauchamp, who graduated prior to the game, would finish with three runs allowed on five hits over 4.0 innings as he took the loss.
North Georgia’s only source of run production came in the eighth inning when Bo Edwards stroked a line drive to center field scoring Steven Tomlinson and advancing Sam Tidaback to third base. Edwards would finish the game two-for-three with a walk and the Nighthawks lone run batted in.
As momentum began to shift, the Lions made a pitching change, deciding to throw Max Chadsey against Tremayne Toorie, who stood as the game-tying run. Toorie smoked a line drive to right but a leaping catch by the Emmanuel right fielder ended the Nighthawk threat.
Emmanuel starter Aaron Westbury finished the game with one run allowed on five hits over 7.2 innings, picking up his second win in the process.
The rubber game of the series will take place tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Senior day festivities will begin approximately twenty minutes before first pitch.
