(Cleveland)- A White County High School student has been awarded the JROTC Legion of Valor Bronze Cross Achievement Award.

Griffin Defoor was officially presented with the award Thursday night during the White County Board of Education Meeting. Established in 1957 the Bronze Cross for Achievement is the highest award for achievement in ROTC. The award is presented to cadets who demonstrate outstanding performance, dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, and leadership ability.

Each year, the prestigious award is presented to only 72 cadets across the country representing all branches of service. 

Cindy Free, White County Director of School Improvement said Defoor is the first in the White County cadet program to receive this award.

Free also said that Defoor has just been accepted to West Point Military Academy.
