Adam Hazell GMRC Planning Director explains Comprehensive Plan program to citizens in Cleveland

(Cleveland)- The first of two public comment meeting concerning the White County Comprehensive Plan was well attended Monday night at Cleveland City Hall Annex. White County and it’s municipalities, Cleveland and Helen are updating their joint comprehensive plan and they want to hear from the community.

Officials are working with the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission in developing the plan and at Monday meeting in Cleveland Adam Hazell, Planning Director with GMRC explained the process and accepted comments from the public.

Hazell said the response from the public was positive. He said, “ the more information we get from people the more clear, their direction, what their suggestions are for the community and it helps their elected officials on how to make Cleveland better.

Hazell said, “ the prevailing theme that we heard was that the people are not as concerned about growing more they just want to see what they have already here in town better.” Some of the suggestions were to have a pedestrian friendly area downtown, more sidewalks, beautification of the city, environmentally green, historic preservation and keep the small town feel.

Another public comment meeting will be held at Helen City Hall Tuesday at 6:00 PM. All area citizens are encouraged to attend. Those unable to attend may obtain survey forms and more information at both city halls.

The last time the plan was updated was in 2009.
