AgfaPhoto(Cleveland)-  This is an extended weekend for White County School students, some of them may go hungry because of the lack of food supply at home.  Those students get breakfast and lunch free while they are at school.  The backpack buddies program and Weekend Warriors Project is working to help these students have some food to get them through the weekend.

At a meeting last week organizers said they have served 293 kids from all schools in the county.   Rev. Andy Chambers, Volunteer Coordinator for the program said they get help through Northeast Georgia Food Bank which help in reducing their food  cost,  but more help is need.  “the cost of $260 per child for the entire school year and you multiply that times 293 kids and that’s a large undertaking and we feel strongly that this needs to be a community effort.  That we need to work together to take care of our children,” said Chambers.

Chambers  said, they need about $75,000 for the school year to fund the program and they are calling on individuals, church and civic groups to help with the program.
