(Clarkesville)-  Achieving a professional credential is a celebrated event at North Georgia Technical College, and in July, faculty, staff, friends, and families of students in the Pharmacy Technology and Clinical Laboratory Technology programs gathered to watch their student being pinned.

Acting President Dr. Mark Ivester said,  “I see a group of committed health care professionals. ”  Among those recognized,  Dawn Hutchins of Cleveland  who decided to go back to school after working in the accounting field for 16 years.  She chose Clinical Laboratory Technology because it offered the opportunity to help physicians diagnose patients. Dawn plans to return to college to work on her Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science while working as a Medical Lab Technician.  Dawn was pinned by her son, Stephen Hutchins, and her daughter, Ashley Hutchins.  Also Amanda O’Quinn of Cleveland  she will be working at Northeast Georgia Medical Center while working on her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences. “  Amanda was pinned by her instructor Lauren Strader.

Students who have successfully completed these programs of study are eligible to sit for the national certification exam in their chosen field. Certification means a professional edge, increased prestige among colleagues, and greater job security.
