White County Caring & Sharing

changing application-taking site

White County Caring & Sharing is moving its monthly application-taking sessions to Cleveland First Baptist Church, effective Monday, Aug. 27.

The not-for-profit service organization, which has helped White County residents with more than $1.5 million in emergency assistance since 1990, is shifting its regular intake location to Cleveland First Baptist Church following several years of taking applications at United Community Bank’s Roy Ash Community Building.

“Sincerest appreciation to United Community Bank for providing a welcoming home for applicants each month since 2010,” said the Rev. Dennis Turner, associate pastor of Cleveland First Baptist Church, who serves as executive director of White County Caring & Sharing. “We look forward to continuing to help our neighbors as our volunteers now will meet with applicants at Cleveland First Baptist Church, typically on the fourthMonday morning of each month.”

The next intake session is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., in the fellowship hall of Cleveland First Baptist Church at 25 Church St., two blocks north of Cleveland’s Courthouse Square.

Applicants who bring proof of at least three months of White County residency and original bills for which emergency assistance is sought may receive help with payments of utilities, rent and other needs as approved by the Caring & Sharing board.

As funds are limited, assistance is available only once per six-month period, with a lifetime limit of three assists per household. There also are dollar limitations on amounts per assist and total lifetime assistance.

More than a dozen White County churches currently are partners in Caring & Sharing, which furnishes responsible stewardship in community benevolence through a centralized process, making disbursements straight to the parties to which bills are owed.

In addition, Caring & Sharing is blessed to receive regular contributions from United Way of White County, White County Thrift Store, Habersham Electric Membership Corp. and various civic groups and individuals.

“As a nondenominational community ministry, Caring & Sharing serves not only as a valuable clearinghouse for providing emergency assistance funds but also offers those in need loving emotional support and, as appropriate, referral to additional resources,” Turner said. “WhiteCounty Caring & Sharing continues to seek funding and appreciatively welcomes contributions large and small.”
