AUGUSTA, Ga. – Julianne Sutton and Tamera Thorpe each earned a double-double as the No. 20 University of North Georgia women’s basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Augusta, 77-56, Saturday afternoon.

After trailing 34-28 at halftime, the Nighthawks came out and scored 31 of the 44 points in the third quarter to shift the momentum. In the period, UNG held the Jaguars scoreless for nearly seven minutes as part of a 19-0 run that pushed the North Georgia lead up to 57-41.

From there, North Georgia was able to lean on Sutton and Thorpe to extend the lead out to 21 before the final horn.

NOTES
– Thorpe led all scorers with 26 points to go with her 11 rebounds. Sutton finished with 20 points and 12 boards, while Vanessa Agrusa was two points shy of a double-double after pulling down 10 rebounds.

– UNG outscored Augusta in the paint, 48-16, while shooting 77 percent in the second half (20-for-26).

– Off 18 offensive boards, the Nighthawks scored 21 second chance points. Augusta was only able to muster two second chance points on five offensive rebounds.
