AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the fourth consecutive year, the University of North Georgia softball team was picked atop the Peach Belt Preseason Coaches Poll Thursday morning as announced by the league’s office. UNG got a maximum 10 first-place votes, making them a unanimous selection for the first time since the 2016 season.

North Georgia won their fifth straight PBC regular-season title in 2018, their eighth in the last 10 years, along with their fifth consecutive PBC Tournament title. The Nighthawks also won the NCAA Southeast Regional and returned to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship for the fifth time since 2009.

For 2019, UNG welcomes back junior pitcher Kylee Smith, named the DII National Player of the Year by the NFCA and National Pitcher of the Year by the D2CCA. Also back are five seniors along with All-Conference players Shelby HammontreeKaylyn AnthonyAlishia Frierson, and Hobby Gregory.
