DAHLONEGA – With a record crowd in the UNG Convocation Center, the University of North Georgia men’s basketball team battled hard but ultimately fell to Columbus State, 76-67, Wednesday night. 3,138 fans packed into the building for the NCAA Division II Showcase game.

After both teams struggled to settle into the game, Columbus State started to pull away early in the second half, using a 10-0 run to stretch their lead to 14 points with 16:03 left to play. The Cougar lead got to as many as 16 down the stretch before settling at nine when the final horn sounded.

NOTES
– Zez Steeple finished with 20 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the field and 5-for-10 from behind the three-point line. Zach Cottrell added 13 points, while Shawn Hopkins scored 10.

– CSU’s Bryant Givens led all scorers with 21 points, but Landrius Horton had a double-double of 19 points and 20 rebounds.

– The Cougars outscored UNG in the paint, 42-28.
