CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Georgia put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the 10th to earn a walkoff win over the University of North Georgia baseball team, 10-9, Tuesday night at UWG’s Cole Field. The Nighthawks fall to 21-14 with the loss.

The Nighthawks scored the game’s first four runs of the game, starting with a single run in the top of the first on a Conner Corbitt single that scored Chase Sudduth. North Georgia added three more in the fourth, highlighted by a William Mapesdouble that plated Jake Arnold and Steven Tomlinson, putting UNG up, 4-0.

West Georgia pushed four runs across in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, but the Nighthawks responded with five runs in the fifth, ending with a Nick Clarno grand slam, the first of his career, to give North Georgia a 9-4 lead.

From there, the Wolves pitching staff buckled down and the bats for UWG heated up. The Wolves scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth and tied the game in the seventh with two RBI singles. West Georgia then drew a walk and two singles in the 10th with two outs to walk off the game.

NOTES
– Tomlinson led the Nighthawks at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Mapes finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.

– The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for UNG over the Wolves. This was the seventh one-run game between the two schools with North Georgia having won five of them.

– North Georgia had just one hit after the sixth inning.
